****30 DAYS POSITIVE INFORMATION FOR PETS*****
My apologies for not posting on April 1. I am still recovering((grieving)) from the loss of BLUE and PEANUT and wasn't focused. Thank you for your patience and understanding. So I will try to catch up here.
The purpose of trying to do 30 days of Positive Information for pets((primarily dogs because I have the most experience/exposure to them)), is to provide, educate, and pass on information to pet owners regarding health/welfare of their pets based on research, but mostly from personal experience.
APRIL 1, 2014: I would like to discuss diet because if you feel good on the inside, you will show it on the outside. It it applies to "humans" it most certainly applies to animals/pets too((common sense)). What I post here is ONLY from personal experience with my own pets. QUESTION: how would "you" feel if you ate the same food 2-3 times a day, EVERY DAY, for the rest of your life? Would you consider it healthy, full-filling, satisfying? NO? Then why would you "expect" your pet to think so? With this concept in mind providing a variety of "choices" in your pets diet will keep them interested, happy, and healthy, not to mention getting a leg up on all the "allergies" that are affecting our dogs! Some suggestions to ADD to your dogs canned or dry food include, but are not limited to:
Canned/Raw Veggies((carrots, green beans, celery, broccoli, etc.))
Fresh Fruit((banana, apples((NO SEEDS/CORE)), strawberries))
Fish Oil((great for skin/coat))
Cooked White or Brown Rice((great for digestion))
Joint Supplement((I prefer liquid form for easy absorption/digest))
Added Vitamin now and then((again I prefer liquid for easy absorption/digestion))
Boiled Chicken Breasts((ensure it is cooked))
The above list is what I DO use for my own dogs and I have seen great improvement in their overall weight control, activity level, and general health((I have 3 dogs ranging from 2 -12 years))
****FOODS NOT TO GIVE PETS/DEATH WILL RESULT*****
GRAPES/RAISINS-will cause kidney failure
AVOCADO-will cause oxygen deprivation leading to DEATH
ONIONS/GARLIC/CHIVES-kidney damage
TOMATOE PLANTS-cholinesterase inhibition resulting coma/death
RAW and GREEN POTATOES-heart arrhythimia
MUSHROOMS-death 7-10 days((THESE INCLUDE THE ONES GROWING IN YOUR YARDS))
TREE NUTS((walnuts/pecans/pistachios/brazil/and even peanuts))
this will lead to Aflatozin poison and Liver failure in 72hrs
**peanut butter seems to be ok, but I would extremely limit how much to give**
More and more people are experimenting and developing their own homemade recipies with superior results. If you don't want to develop your own, you can web search.
COST: for me personally, the cost and time associated with supplementing my dogs canned/kibble versus vet bills associated with poor health when the dog becomes older, is WORTH IT. A few dollars more((maybe hundreds over time)) vs THOUSANDS immediately is a no-brainer, at least for me. I only wish I knew of this when I was growing up instead of recently((in the past 10 years or so))
Some people give their dogs RAW diet((i.e. raw chicken)). I do not have any experience with this technique so I have no input at this time.
I hope you will find the information I have provided helpful. Wishing you and your pet a long, healthy, wonderful life!!!
GOD BLESS and PAWS ^5
