It has been a very difficult few days. On Memorial Day (May 28, 2012) one of my dogs named PUDGY, became ill. He was pacing, trying to vomit, avoiding contact(not growling, just wandering off), and wouldn't sit down. Thank GOD for my recent studies in Pet Massage and Pet Acupressure or I wouldn't have recongized symptoms of BLOATING or GASTRIC DILATATION VOLVULUS. I felt and saw that his abdomen had "bloated" to a very large, hard size. IMMEDIATELY took him to emergeny vet and he ended up that his stomach had turned according to xrays. THIS IS A FATAL CONDITION WHEN LEFT UNTREATED. Because I was so quick to respond to his distress, when he was opened up no dead or dying tissure was found and his stomach was turned back, stappled, and he was closed. HOWEVER, because this is such a SERIOUS CONDITION, even post surgery is not without risk. Pudgy developed heart arrithema which also can become fatal if left unattended. Currently he has mild form and over time and with medications they are going away. This proceedure is costing between FIVE THOUSAND to possibley more than SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS. SO when you have pets, emergencies are ALWAYS a possibility to encounter. The only other option if not the life saving operation would have been to put PUDGY asleep and I could NOT bear to do that. He is only 10 years old, extremely happy, active, and it would NOT have been fair to put him down because of finances. YES, things will be very tough for awhile, but he is part of my PACK and worth every penny. SO ANIMAL LOVERS OUT THERE. KNOW YOUR PETS BEHAVIOR(s), THEIR LIVES DEPEND ON IT! At the time of this post, PUDGY is still at the vet hospital and we hope to bring him home tonight or at latest tomorrow.
